Bangor, ME – A late-season winter system is expected to bring snow, sleet, and freezing rain across much of Maine beginning Sunday afternoon, with hazardous travel anticipated from Bangor to Caribou and beyond.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow will develop before noon Sunday in the Bangor area, spreading northeastward to Houlton, Presque Isle, and Caribou by around 5 p.m. The snow is forecast to transition into a wintry mix by late afternoon in central areas, while northern regions will see a mix of sleet and freezing rain by Sunday evening.
Snowfall totals will range from 1 to 4 inches across the state, with higher amounts—up to 4 inches—expected in areas like Fort Kent, Clayton Lake, and St. Pamphile. Ice accumulation could reach up to 0.25 inches in parts of Penobscot and Aroostook counties.
By Monday, any freezing rain is expected to change to plain rain as temperatures rise. Commuters and travelers should remain alert for slick roads, particularly Sunday night into early Monday.
Residents are urged to monitor local forecasts, avoid unnecessary travel during peak impact hours, and keep emergency supplies ready in case of power outages or delays.
