Caribou, ME – Holiday travelers across northern Maine could face challenging road conditions this Thanksgiving week as rain, wind, and snow move through the region, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.

The agency reports that rain will develop from south to north late Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, possibly mixing briefly with wintry precipitation across the Central Highlands and Southern Aroostook. Most areas can expect 0.5 to 1 inch of total rainfall by early Thursday.

Forecasters say the rain will taper off late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with temperatures dropping enough for some areas—especially across the North Woods—to see a changeover to light snow, though accumulations are expected to be minimal.

By Friday, scattered snow showers may return to northern sections of the state, with some spots experiencing reduced visibility during heavier bursts. The NWS warns that isolated slick spots could impact morning travel.

Drivers are advised to allow extra time for travel and stay tuned for updated forecasts as the system evolves through the Thanksgiving weekend.
