Caribou, Maine – Thunderstorms may bring wet roads and possible power disruptions to northern Maine starting Thursday afternoon, marking a shift from recent calm summer weather.

According to the National Weather Service, a round of showers and possible thunderstorms is expected in Caribou after 2 p.m. Thursday, with rain chances increasing into Thursday night. Most of the activity will begin after sunset, with a 60% chance of rain Thursday night and the potential for heavier downpours during isolated thunderstorms.

Residents near U.S. Route 1 and surrounding Aroostook County roads should plan for reduced visibility and possible slick pavement late Thursday into Friday morning. Winds will stay relatively light, but localized flooding can’t be ruled out. Friday will remain unsettled, with a 60% chance of additional showers and storms, mostly in the afternoon.

With this being Caribou’s first active rain pattern in over a week, Mainers should avoid unnecessary travel during storm windows, charge devices in case of power flickers, and reschedule outdoor plans for drier windows on Saturday and Sunday.
