Caribou, Maine – A cold front cutting across Maine today is set to bring widespread rain, gusty winds, and a chance of thunderstorms, especially across central and Downeast regions. Drivers and outdoor plans may be disrupted this afternoon and evening as the system tracks southeast.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, showers will start in the northwest this morning before spreading across the state. The heaviest rainfall is expected in central and coastal counties, with totals reaching around half an inch. While the chance for an isolated strong thunderstorm exists near the Downeast coast, forecasters say confidence remains low.
Behind the front, breezy northwest winds will sweep through much of Maine, making conditions cooler and unsettled. By tonight, temperatures will dip sharply into the low 40s in the north and upper 40s Downeast, marking some of the chilliest readings so far this month.
High pressure is expected to take over Monday, bringing clear skies and calmer, milder weather to start the week. Residents are advised to plan for wet conditions today, then be ready for unseasonably cold overnight lows before a stretch of improved weather sets in.
