Caribou, Maine – Scattered thunderstorms are sweeping across central and northern Maine Friday morning, with gusty winds expected to increase through the afternoon, especially in interior Downeast areas.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, showers and storms will continue through midday across regions including Millinocket, Houlton, and Caribou. Winds will shift from the west-northwest and may exceed 30 mph in open areas later today. High temperatures will reach the low 70s across the north, and mid-70s in southern and interior sections.

Areas along I-95 and U.S. Route 1 could experience brief downpours and reduced visibility. Drivers are urged to slow down during heavy rain and be prepared for strong crosswinds. Power outages aren’t expected to be widespread, but tree limbs may come down in windier spots.

Saturday will bring a much sunnier and warmer outlook statewide, with highs pushing into the upper 70s and low 80s across Bangor, Calais, and Presque Isle. Another weather system may return Sunday with a chance for more showers and isolated thunderstorms.

Storm activity is expected to taper off by late afternoon Friday. Another weather advisory could be issued ahead of Sunday’s disturbance.
