Caribou, Maine – Warm temperatures and morning fog are giving way to an incoming round of thunderstorms across Maine Thursday, with some areas likely to see gusty winds and small hail by late afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a low-pressure system is approaching from the west and will cross the state Thursday. Rain chances increase after daybreak, with the best opportunity for thunderstorms developing from the afternoon into the evening. Some storm cells could produce damaging winds and small hail, particularly across central and eastern Maine.

Wednesday will remain dry and warm, with highs in the mid-80s for inland areas like Millinocket and Houlton. Coastal regions, including Bar Harbor and Rockland, will stay cooler under mostly cloudy skies, with patchy fog lingering through the morning. Any rain today is expected to be light and confined to the coast.

Drivers should watch for reduced visibility in fog-prone valleys this morning and prepare for deteriorating travel conditions Thursday. Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and have weather alerts enabled on mobile devices.

Storm activity may taper off late Thursday night, but additional advisories are possible. Stay tuned for updates from the National Weather Service.
