Caribou, Maine – Sunshine will hold across Maine through midweek, but a sharp change is coming by the weekend with widespread frost possible Saturday night. Highs will climb into the low 70s in northern towns and near 80 degrees inland by Wednesday and Thursday before a cold front sweeps through.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, the front arrives late Thursday into Friday morning, bringing gusty winds but little rainfall. Temperatures will tumble behind it, with overnight lows dropping close to freezing by Friday night.
The most significant frost risk comes Saturday night when widespread freezing conditions are expected across much of the state. Residents should prepare to protect late-season gardens and outdoor plumbing. Valley fog is also expected to develop tonight and Wednesday night, potentially slowing the morning commute in places like Bangor, Houlton, and Presque Isle.
By early next week, conditions look drier with cooler days and chilly mornings continuing.
