Caribou, ME – Northern Maine picked up several inches of heavy wet snow Sunday night as the latest storm moved across the region, with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Caribou reporting totals ranging from 3 to more than 4.5 inches across Aroostook and Piscataquis counties. Some higher-elevation areas in the northwest portions of the state recorded even greater snowfall.

According to the NWS, early reports show 4.5 inches in Westfield, 4.0 inches in Madawaska, and 3.6 inches in Frenchville, with additional 2–3 inch readings in surrounding communities. Locations across eastern and central Aroostook County, including Presque Isle, Caribou, and Washburn, mainly reported between 1.5 and 2.5 inches as of 8 p.m. Sunday.

Farther south, Penobscot and Piscataquis counties also saw steady snow. Towns such as Patten, Dexter, and Millinocket recorded 1 to 2.6 inches. Greenville and nearby areas in western Piscataquis reached 4.5 inches, aligning with some of the higher totals reported across the region.

The NWS notes that the heaviest snowfall occurred between early afternoon and evening, with wet, compacting snow expected to settle overnight. Winds will increase behind the system, which may reduce snow depth as the storm continues to taper off.

Residents reporting their own measurements are encouraged by the NWS to take readings on flat surfaces such as tables, decks, or open yard areas to ensure accuracy. Additional updates will follow as new reports come in and the storm fully exits the region.

The snowfall marks one of the first significant early-season events for northern Maine, setting the stage for colder conditions moving into the workweek.
