Maine – Strong winds and fresh snow will create hazardous road conditions in northern Maine on Friday night, with blowing and drifting snow expected.
According to the National Weather Service, a weather system moving into the region on Friday, March 7, will bring patchy blowing snow, strong wind gusts, and freezing temperatures. Snowfall is expected to begin late Friday morning, with winds reaching up to 37 mph by the evening. Roadways, including major routes through Aroostook County, could become slippery, with reduced visibility due to drifting snow.
Friday’s high in Caribou will be around 32°F, but wind chills will make it feel significantly colder. Snowfall accumulation of 3 to 5 inches is expected, with higher drifts in open areas. Drivers should use caution and allow extra travel time, especially on rural roads.
Looking ahead, the weekend will bring continued cold and breezy conditions. Snow showers may linger into Saturday morning, with highs near 20°F and gusts up to 33 mph. Sunday will be partly sunny but cold, with a high of just 26°F.
Next week, temperatures will remain below freezing, with additional chances of snow early in the week. Those traveling should monitor local weather updates and prepare for changing conditions.
