Caribou, ME – Snow is spreading across northern and central Maine this morning, creating slick roads before a much stronger storm system threatens the state with heavy rain, strong winds, and potential flooding Monday into Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow will develop through the morning and continue into the evening across much of the state. Many communities in northern Maine, including Caribou, Presque Isle, Fort Kent, and Houlton, could see 3 to 6 inches of accumulation, while parts of the central Highlands and Downeast Maine may receive 4 to 8 inches before the snow tapers tonight.

Temperatures will remain in the 30s with breezy winds, creating slippery travel conditions along Interstate 95, U.S. Route 1, and Route 11 during the day.

Attention then turns to a powerful storm expected to impact Maine Monday through Tuesday. Forecasters say the system could bring gusty winds exceeding 45 mph, periods of heavy rain, and the potential for localized flooding and isolated power outages.

Communities along the coast, including Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, and Machias, may also see coastal flooding as strong winds push water toward the shoreline.

Residents should prepare for changing weather conditions over the next several days and monitor updated forecasts as the early-week storm approaches Maine.
