Caribou, ME – A mix of snow, rain, and strong winds is expected across Maine on Sunday, followed by the potential for a more significant winter storm early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow will begin north of Bangor Sunday afternoon and continue through midnight, dropping 1 to 4 inches across northern areas. Southern and coastal regions will see rain or a rain-snow mix, with winds gusting up to 45 mph along the Downeast coast. The agency cautions that these gusts could cause isolated power outages and slick road conditions as temperatures dip below freezing overnight.
Forecasters added that wet roads may freeze Sunday night, creating hazardous driving conditions into Monday morning.
Looking ahead, the Weather Service notes a larger snowstorm could develop Tuesday into Tuesday night, bringing heavier snowfall—potentially up to 3 inches south of Houlton. Meteorologists emphasize that models remain uncertain, urging residents to monitor updated forecasts as the system approaches.
Small Craft and Gale Warnings are also in effect for coastal waters Sunday evening due to strengthening winds.
