Caribou, ME – Northern Maine residents are waking up to a frosty start this Sunday, September 21, but warmer weather is on the way before showers return early in the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, sunshine and a light southwesterly breeze will bring a milder afternoon with inland highs climbing into the mid to upper 60s. Tonight, temperatures will drop into the low to mid-40s across much of the state, with a few upper 30s possible in colder valleys of northwestern Maine.

Monday is forecast to be warmer, with increasing clouds and afternoon highs reaching near 70. A frontal system will likely move in Monday night into Tuesday, bringing showers across the region. Rain amounts are expected to average around a quarter-inch, though forecasters note some uncertainty about where the heaviest bands of showers will develop. Highs on Tuesday will range from the upper 60s in northern areas to the mid-70s in Downeast Maine.

Looking ahead, forecasters say a new high-pressure system will push down from Canada by midweek, bringing partial clearing on Wednesday. Highs will settle in the mid to upper 60s, followed by a mostly sunny Thursday with highs again in the upper 60s.
