Caribou, ME – Residents across Downeast and northern Maine can expect rain and snow showers today followed by a sharp drop in temperatures beginning Sunday, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.

Forecasters say precipitation will begin late Saturday morning and continue through the evening, bringing snow showers inland and a mix of rain and snow along the coast. Snow accumulations should remain under an inch today, but 1 to 2 inches of additional snow may fall Sunday night into Monday morning, especially near Bangor and interior Downeast Maine.

Arctic air will settle over the region from Sunday through Tuesday, with daytime highs only in the teens and nighttime lows dropping near or below zero. Monday is expected to be the coldest day, with blustery winds making it feel even colder.

Drivers are urged to use caution Monday morning as slick roads may develop during the commute. The National Weather Service advises preparing for icy travel conditions and dressing in layers to avoid frostbite during prolonged outdoor exposure.
