Caribou, Maine – A steady, soaking rain is set to move into central and southern Maine late Friday and persist through Saturday night, with totals potentially exceeding one inch in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, the heaviest rain is expected south of Millinocket, including parts of Downeast and Central Maine. Rain will begin late Friday evening and continue through Saturday night, with the most persistent showers likely Saturday afternoon. Confidence is high in widespread rain, but forecasters remain uncertain about where the heaviest bands will form.
Cities such as Bangor, Waterville, and Ellsworth have the highest chances for rain totals near or above one inch. Northern areas, including Presque Isle and Houlton, may see little to no rain due to lingering uncertainty about how far north the system will track. Dry conditions are expected Thursday and Friday before the system arrives, with cooler-than-average temperatures lingering into Sunday.
Drivers should watch for ponding on roads, especially in low-lying areas, and limit outdoor plans during peak rain hours on Saturday.
Rain chances taper off late Saturday night, but cooler temperatures will remain through the weekend.
