Maine – Drivers across Maine should prepare for fresh snow chances returning through the final stretch of the month, with light accumulations possible along the coast and steadier bursts developing farther north.
According to the National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center, temperatures across New England are expected to trend near normal from Sunday through Thursday, while precipitation chances lean above average. That setup favors periodic snow, especially in interior and northern Maine where colder air will hold firm.
Statewide, communities from Portland to Bar Harbor could see light coastal snow showers at times, creating slick stretches on I-95 and U.S. Route 1 during early morning and evening hours. Bangor and Millinocket stand a better chance of seeing more consistent light accumulation, particularly if weak systems track just offshore. Farther west toward the Great Lakes, stronger bands may organize, and any shift east could enhance snowfall totals across western Maine.
Road crews may need to treat bridges and overpasses during overnight hours. Residents should monitor local advisories, check tire tread and keep winter gear in vehicles as conditions can change quickly.
Additional updates are expected through the week as winter reasserts itself across New England through Thursday.
