Maine – A late-season cold front will bring icy conditions and snow showers to Northern Maine on Wednesday, just before spring officially begins on Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, temperatures will drop below freezing Tuesday night, leading to slick roads early Wednesday morning. A light snow accumulation of up to an inch is possible, particularly around Presque Isle, Caribou, and Greenville. Rain from earlier in the week has left roadways wet, increasing the risk of ice formation overnight.

Drivers should prepare for hazardous conditions, especially along Route 1 and I-95, where freezing temperatures could create slick spots. Winds will be light, but visibility may be reduced in areas experiencing snowfall.

By Wednesday afternoon, sunshine will return, and temperatures will reach the upper 40s, allowing for some melting. However, another round of precipitation is expected Thursday, with rain likely in the evening.

Looking ahead, Friday will bring a mix of rain and snow, with temperatures peaking in the low 40s before dropping into the 20s overnight. The weekend remains cold, with occasional snow showers and highs struggling to reach the 40s.

Spring officially begins on Thursday, but winter-like conditions will persist. Residents should stay updated on road conditions and dress warmly for the lingering chill.
