Caribou, ME – Northern Maine is in for several rounds of wintry weather over the next few days, with locally heavy snow showers today, accumulating snowfall Sunday, and the possibility of a more significant winter storm on Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.
Forecasters say locally heavy snow showers today could create quick, hazardous changes in visibility, especially north of Bangor. Brief bursts of heavier snow may lead to rapid accumulations of around 1 inch, enough to impact travel during the afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service, a more organized system is expected to move into the region on Sunday, beginning around midday or early afternoon. Snowfall will be most concentrated north of Bangor, where several inches are likely, and some locations have a 50–80% chance of receiving more than 2 inches by Sunday night.
The highest probabilities for heavier totals stretch across Aroostook County, where cold air locked in place will allow the system to remain mostly snow through Sunday evening.
Looking ahead, forecasters say a possible significant winter storm could impact Maine on Tuesday and Tuesday night. While confidence in the storm’s track and intensity is still evolving, early signals point to the potential for impactful snowfall somewhere across northern and eastern Maine. The NWS urges residents to monitor forecast updates through the weekend.
Travelers should be prepared for sudden visibility drops today, accumulating snow on Sunday, and the potential for more widespread disruptions early next week.
