Caribou, Maine – A surge of showers and thunderstorms is set to sweep across central and Downeast Maine tonight into Friday, bringing the risk of heavy rainfall, urban flooding, and gusty winds. Cities like Bangor, Lincoln, and Bar Harbor could see the heaviest downpours during the Friday afternoon commute, while temperatures remain unseasonably warm in the low to mid-80s for southern areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, the most intense storms are expected to develop by midday Friday, with a flood risk in urban centers and low-lying spots. Some thunderstorms may produce locally strong wind gusts and brief power outages. Northern towns including Caribou, Presque Isle, and Houlton should also stay alert for isolated downpours through Thursday night.
Travel on Route 1, I-95, and local roads may be impacted by standing water and reduced visibility. Residents are urged to avoid driving through flooded streets, charge devices ahead of any outages, and monitor for changing alerts.
After the front moves out Friday night, dry air returns, with sunny skies and highs in the upper 70s to low 80s across Maine Saturday and Sunday. A quick shower remains possible Sunday afternoon, mainly over the Central Highlands and Downeast coast.
Warnings remain in effect through Friday. Additional updates will be issued if new storms develop.
