Caribou, Maine – Heavy afternoon downpours could flood roadways across Downeast Maine today as thunderstorms move in with a passing cold front.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, scattered storms are expected across the region Sunday, with the most intense rainfall hitting the Downeast area. These storms may lead to ponding on roads and rises in small streams, especially by late afternoon. High temperatures will hold in the low 70s across most of the state.

Skies will gradually clear tonight with cooler conditions. Lows will range from the upper 40s in the northwest to the mid-50s elsewhere.

Monday will feel more like early fall, with highs only reaching the mid 60s in the north and near 70 Downeast under a mix of clouds and sun. Tuesday brings mostly sunny skies and mid-70s temperatures, followed by a seasonable warm-up Wednesday with highs in the upper 70s.

The next significant weather threat arrives Thursday with more showers and thunderstorms possible as another cold front pushes through. Inland temperatures Thursday could reach near 80.

⚠️ Residents in Downeast counties should use caution on low-lying roads and avoid driving through standing water.
