Maine – Tires are already crunching over thin ice in parts of Caribou this morning, as wet roads rapidly freeze under falling temperatures. What looked like just damp pavement earlier is turning slick fast, especially on untreated roads and rural routes. If you’re heading out now, conditions can change within minutes.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a Special Weather Statement highlights icy roads developing this morning as temperatures fall behind a cold front. Moisture left on roads is freezing quickly, creating dangerous travel conditions across Aroostook County and surrounding مناطق.

Main routes like US-1 and Route 161 may remain partially treated, but side streets, bridges, and shaded areas are the biggest concern. Expect patchy black ice through late morning, especially where wind chills drop below zero at times.

Blustery conditions continue through the day, with highs only near 24°F and northwest wind gusts reaching up to 34 mph. That wind will keep surfaces cold and slow any melting. If you must drive, reduce speed and allow extra stopping distance.

Saturday stays cold but quieter, with highs near 21°F and lighter winds. By Sunday, temperatures rebound into the mid-30s, but snow showers return by afternoon and increase into Sunday night.

Looking ahead, Monday brings a brief mix of snow and rain with highs near 40°F before colder air returns again into Tuesday with additional snow chances.
