Caribou residents should brace for a stormy Saturday before a refreshing wave of cool September air takes hold by Labor Day. Travelers on I-95 may face slick conditions through Saturday afternoon as thunderstorms and heavy showers push across Aroostook County.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, showers and thunderstorms will taper off late tonight, leaving patchy fog in their wake. Sunshine is expected to return Monday, but cooler Canadian air will keep overnight lows dipping into the lower 50s through midweek. Afternoon highs will only reach the mid-70s, a noticeable drop after today’s humid conditions.

The timing couldn’t be more fitting as September begins. Labor Day itself looks bright and pleasant with highs near 77, but residents should plan for cool evenings. The drop in temperatures marks one of the first fall-like air masses of the season across northern New England.

Sunday could still bring a few lingering showers, but improving conditions will dominate by Monday. Farmers and outdoor businesses should prepare for drier fields and crisper mornings, while campers and travelers are urged to pack layers for cooler nights.

Looking more broadly, NOAA’s extended outlook shows much of the Midwest and Northeast trending below average into early September. For Maine, that means the cool pattern will likely stick around into next weekend.

Warnings and advisories may be updated if storms redevelop Saturday night. Residents are encouraged to stay alert for changing road conditions and check updates from the NWS.
