Caribou, ME – Gray skies stretch across Aroostook County this morning, holding a steady chill as the final days of October close in. The air feels damp and heavy — a sure sign that another round of cold rain is about to move in. Roads are still mostly dry at daybreak, but the calm won’t last long.

Rain begins to develop late tonight and strengthens through Friday morning, bringing a raw, soaking feel to the region. Winds will increase from the east at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph possible by afternoon. Friday’s high barely reaches the low 50s, but the rain and breeze will make it feel colder. Those traveling along U.S. Route 1 or through the St. John Valley should plan for wet pavement and limited visibility during the heaviest rain bands.

Saturday stays unsettled with scattered showers and highs in the mid-40s, followed by a sharper drop in temperatures by Sunday. Lows dip into the upper 20s, and patchy frost is likely to form as skies begin to clear.

Looking farther ahead, long-range weather models continue to show an active northern jet stream pattern developing across the Great Lakes and into New England between November 8–15. That setup could bring Maine’s first measurable snow of the season, especially north of I-95 and across higher terrain.

For now, residents should brace for a wet and chilly end to October — and keep winter gear within reach. Early signs suggest November won’t wait long to remind northern Maine how quickly the seasons change.
