Maine – Wet pavement and shifting skies are setting the stage for a messy stretch in Caribou, where rain will transition to snow and back again over the next 48 hours.

According to the National Weather Service, rain develops by mid-afternoon today with highs near 49°F, before colder air pushes in and flips precipitation to a rain-snow mix tonight. Snow chances climb to 90%, with minor accumulation possible and visibility reductions after sunset.

Across Aroostook County, including Presque Isle and along Route 1, roads may turn slushy late today into tonight. Drivers should plan extra time and watch for reduced traction, especially on untreated rural roads.

Saturday stays chilly, with highs near 42°F and a lingering mix of rain and wet snow before gradual improvement. By evening, skies begin to clear, but temperatures drop sharply into the upper 20s.

That temperature drop raises a concern. Any leftover moisture could refreeze, creating slick patches early Sunday morning. Bridges and overpasses will be the first trouble spots.

Sunday brings a brief break with sunshine and highs near 46°F, but conditions turn unsettled again by evening. Rain redevelops and continues into Monday, when widespread rainfall is expected with a 100% chance and highs near 51°F.

Looking ahead, a milder trend builds midweek with highs pushing into the 50s, signaling gradual spring recovery after this cold, damp stretch.
