Augusta, Maine – Snow-covered side streets and untreated highways are slowing drivers across central and Midcoast Maine this morning, and conditions could remain slick through the early afternoon commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 4 p.m. Wednesday for Kennebec, Central and Southern Somerset, Interior Waldo, Coastal Waldo, Knox, Lincoln and Sagadahoc counties. Storm totals will reach 3 to 5 inches across inland communities including Skowhegan, Madison and Waterville, with up to 6 inches along the Midcoast from Rockland and Camden to Bath and Boothbay Harbor.
Even light additional snowfall — generally under 2 inches — will continue to accumulate on untreated roads. Routes such as U.S. 201 through Somerset County and stretches of U.S. Route 1 along the coast may remain snow-covered during peak travel times.
In Augusta, Vassalboro and Palermo, drivers should expect reduced traction on secondary roads and neighborhood streets. Coastal towns including Belfast, Damariscotta and Wiscasset will see similar impacts, especially on bridges and shaded roadways.
