Bangor, Maine – Drivers across much of Maine could encounter snow-covered roads and reduced visibility through Saturday afternoon as a widespread band of snowfall moves across central and eastern parts of the state.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m. Saturday for large portions of central and DownEast Maine, including Bangor, Ellsworth, Bar Harbor, Calais, and Greenville. Forecasters expect 3 to 6 inches of snow, which could quickly accumulate on untreated roadways.
Farther north across Aroostook County and the North Woods, including Presque Isle, Caribou, Houlton, and Fort Kent, another advisory runs from 6 a.m. until 7 p.m. Saturday, where 3 to 5 inches of snow are expected.
Snowfall will likely impact travel along Interstate 95 through Bangor and the Penobscot Valley, as well as U.S. Route 1 along the DownEast coast.
Officials urge motorists to slow down and allow extra stopping distance, especially during heavier bursts of snow that could briefly reduce visibility.
Snow is expected to gradually taper later Saturday afternoon in central Maine, while northern areas may continue seeing snow into the evening. Travelers should monitor conditions using New England 511 road updates as crews work to clear highways.
