Gray, Maine – A pivoting snow band is set to drop several inches of snow across interior Maine and northern New Hampshire overnight, creating slick travel conditions by the Tuesday morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, snowfall will continue through early Tuesday morning, with the heaviest totals focused in the White Mountains and western Maine. Areas including Berlin and Littleton, New Hampshire, could see 2 to 3 inches, while Rangeley, Maine, may pick up localized heavier bursts despite general totals staying under 1 inch in many nearby towns.
Across Maine, snowfall amounts taper quickly toward the coast. Portland, Augusta, and Rockland are expected to see less than 1 inch, limiting widespread impacts but still allowing for brief slick spots on bridges and untreated roads. Farther north, Jackman and parts of Somerset County could reach 1 to 2 inches by daybreak.
Drivers along Route 2, Route 26, and Interstate 95 in central Maine should prepare for reduced visibility and snow-covered stretches overnight into early Tuesday. Conditions may change quickly as bands shift.
Motorists are urged to slow down, allow extra stopping distance, and check road conditions before heading out early Tuesday.
Snow tapers off after sunrise Tuesday, but additional systems could bring more precipitation later in the week.
