Caribou, Maine – After a much-needed soaking across northern and eastern Maine this weekend, residents can expect dry skies through Tuesday as the region continues to face significant rainfall deficits. Some areas picked up over 2 inches on Saturday, while most locations saw closer to a half-inch to an inch, according to the National Weather Service in Caribou.
Despite the welcome rainfall, parts of interior Downeast Maine remain 3 to 4 inches below normal for the summer. Meteorologists noted that while the showers eased short-term drought concerns, the state is “not out of the woods yet.”
Communities such as Bangor, Houlton, and Presque Isle reported enough rain to dampen soils and provide temporary relief for farmers and gardeners, but reservoir levels and groundwater remain low. Officials advise residents to continue conserving water, especially in areas still marked by abnormally dry or moderate drought conditions.
Dry weather is expected today through Tuesday, with the next chance for showers arriving late in the workweek. Additional rainfall will be needed to close the seasonal gap.
