Oakfield, ME – Maine State Police arrested a 75-year-old man early Tuesday after he drove the wrong way on I-95. Troopers responded to reports of the wrong-way vehicle near Mile Marker 266 in Aroostook County.
Trooper Noah Castonguay intercepted the 2019 Honda Accord at Mile Marker 281, activating his lights and siren. The driver ignored the signals and continued toward the trooper. Castonguay avoided a collision as the car traveled north in the southbound lane.
According to authorities, Castonguay used a crossover to intercept the vehicle at Mile Marker 286. The driver ignored commands, forcing Castonguay to strike the vehicle’s passenger side with his cruiser. This maneuver stopped the car near Oakfield.
Police identified the driver as James Burch of Freeport. Troopers arrested Burch and charged him with criminal OUI, aggravated driving to endanger, and passing a roadblock. Police transported him to Aroostook County Jail.
Neither Burch nor Castonguay suffered injuries during the incident. Police credited quick actions for averting potential crashes.
