A preliminary investigation allegedly indicates the Malibu, driven by 42-year-old Matthew Parsons of LaGrange, was traveling southbound when it allegedly crossed the centerline and struck the northbound Buick.
Police say the Buick was operated by 70-year-old Peter McCormack of Alton. Parsons was pronounced deceased at the scene. McCormack was allegedly transported by LifeFlight to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with life-threatening injuries, according to Maine State Police.
Authorities closed Route 16 in the area of the crash to all traffic for several hours while first responders from multiple agencies, including Troop I, the Traffic Safety Unit, Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, Old Town Police, Orono Fire & Rescue, Old Town Fire & Rescue, Alton Fire, LaGrange Fire, and Silva’s Towing worked to assist those involved and clear the scene.
