Caribou, Maine – Scorching heat and a brewing line of storms will slam into northern Maine Wednesday, bringing temperatures near 90°F and heat indices as high as 95° to Caribou and surrounding towns by midday.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a cold front is expected to cross the region Wednesday afternoon, triggering isolated strong to severe thunderstorms, especially in areas north of Route 1 and through the North Woods. Gusts could reach up to 26 mph, and high humidity will make it feel significantly hotter than actual readings.

Residents across Aroostook, Somerset, and Piscataquis counties should limit outdoor exposure during peak heat hours and stay alert for sudden downpours or lightning by Wednesday evening. Spotters are encouraged to report hail, wind damage, or other severe weather impacts directly to NWS.

Wednesday night will offer a reprieve with cooler air pushing in and lows around 44°F — a sharp drop that could surprise unprepared campers and hikers.
