Caribou, ME — A spring storm system is bringing continued snow and a persistent flood threat to northern Maine, impacting travel near Caribou and Fort Fairfield. An ice jam on the Aroostook River has triggered a Flood Advisory that remains in effect through 5 a.m. Wednesday, with localized flooding reported along North Caribou Road.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, the ice jam remains locked in place, raising the risk for rising water levels and minor flooding. Local officials and trained spotters confirmed ongoing flooding, particularly in low-lying areas and near the Caribou-Fort Fairfield town line. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads and respect all barricades.

Tuesday night brings a 50% chance of rain and snow, transitioning into additional scattered showers Wednesday, with highs near 42°F. Another round of snow is likely Wednesday night, continuing the trend of unsettled spring conditions.

Looking ahead, Thursday will see snow in the morning, then clouds with a high near 41°F. Friday could bring snow showers late in the day with colder overnight lows around 16°F. The weekend offers some relief, with partly sunny skies expected Saturday and Sunday, but precipitation chances return by Monday.

Residents along rivers and tributaries should stay alert to changing conditions. Ice jams can shift quickly and cause dangerous flash flooding. For up-to-date advisories, visit weather.gov/safety/flood.
