Caribou, ME – Northern Maine braces for more spring snow and ice jam flooding today as a complex weather pattern grips Aroostook County. A Flood Advisory remains in effect until 3:45 PM Sunday, with several low-lying areas near Caribou and Fort Fairfield already impacted.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, ice jams along the Aroostook River continue to create hazardous driving conditions. Water has overtopped North Caribou Road near the Fort Fairfield line, and multiple low-water crossings remain impassable. Local emergency officials are monitoring the situation closely as minor flooding has also been reported in Wade and Washburn.

Sunday temperatures hover in the mid-20s with gusty northwest winds making it feel closer to 17°F. Light snow will continue through the afternoon before tapering off overnight.

Looking ahead, Monday brings a break in the snow early, but another round is expected by the afternoon with a high near 33°F. Snow remains likely Monday night into Tuesday, continuing with a mix of rain and snow through Wednesday.

Safety Tips:

  • Avoid flooded roadways, especially near ice jams.
  • Never drive through barricades; they mark dangerous, fast-changing conditions.
