Portland, ME – A fast-moving clipper system brought measurable snowfall across much of Maine Tuesday into early Wednesday, with some communities picking up more than 6 inches before skies cleared.

According to the National Weather Service office in Gray, snowfall totals from February 10–11 ranged from about 2 to 4 inches across much of southern and coastal Maine, with a heavier band setting up over parts of central Maine. That narrow stretch reported between 6 and 7 inches of accumulation.

The highest totals were concentrated inland, including areas near Augusta and portions of Kennebec County, where snowfall reached 6.5 to 7 inches in isolated spots. Portland and much of Cumberland County generally saw around 3 to 4 inches, while coastal communities reported slightly lower amounts closer to 2 to 3 inches.

Northern Maine totals were more varied, generally ranging from 3 to 5 inches depending on location.

The National Weather Service noted that the heavier band was relatively narrow, meaning some towns saw significantly higher totals than neighboring communities just a few miles away. Meteorologists thanked trained spotters and residents who submitted snowfall reports to help refine totals.

Although the system moved through quickly, untreated roads were slick during the Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning commutes in parts of the state.
