Gray, ME – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for Central Somerset County as snow and mixed precipitation are expected to create slippery road conditions tonight through early Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, the advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday, with 2 to 5 inches of snow forecast across the region. Air temperatures will remain below freezing throughout the event, increasing the potential for roads to quickly become snow covered and hazardous.
Communities included in the advisory area are Jackman, Brassua, Moosehead, Bingham, New Portland, Pittston Farm, Seboomook, and Long Pond. Forecasters warn that even light to moderate snowfall may accumulate rapidly on untreated surfaces, creating dangerous travel conditions during the late evening hours.
According to the NWS, a brief period of mixed precipitation is also possible, which may worsen slick conditions before precipitation transitions back to primarily snow. Drivers are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and avoid unnecessary trips if possible. Stairs, sidewalks, and driveways may also become icy, increasing the risk of slips and falls.
Road conditions across Maine can be monitored through newengland511.org, which provides real-time updates for commuters and emergency travel.
Snow is expected to taper off early Sunday morning, though lingering icy patches may persist until temperatures rise later in the day.
