Biddeford, ME – A police pursuit ended in a serious crash Sunday night when a fleeing suspect was struck while attempting to cross the Maine Turnpike near Biddeford.
According to Maine State Police, the incident happened on September 28, 2025, around 8:30 p.m. A truck driver, identified as Michael Kilmer, 68, of West Virginia, initially believed he had struck a deer while traveling northbound near mile 32. After reviewing his in-truck camera, Kilmer realized the collision involved a pedestrian and contacted authorities.
Troopers arrived and located the man, identified as Jared Felling, 39, of Ellsworth, in a marshy area near the exit. Police said Felling suffered serious leg and head injuries and was in the early stages of hypothermia. He was treated at the scene by troopers and Kennebunk Fire Rescue before being transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland. His injuries were described as serious but non-life-threatening.
Investigators said Felling was actively fleeing Biddeford Police at the time of the crash after being caught stealing from vehicles near the Biddeford exit. In an attempt to evade officers, he allegedly ran across the busy turnpike.
Police also revealed that earlier in the day, Felling had allegedly removed his court-ordered ankle monitor in Ellsworth. The Waldo County Sheriff’s Office had issued a temporary arrest warrant for violating conditions of release.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, but no charges have been announced against the truck driver, who remained on scene and cooperated fully with police.
