Caribou, ME – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through early Wednesday morning across much of northern and central Maine and portions of northern New Hampshire, according to the National Weather Service offices in Caribou and Gray.

Forecasters report that areas including Piscataquis, Penobscot, Aroostook, Hancock, and Washington Counties in Maine, along with Coos and Grafton Counties in New Hampshire, will see total snowfall of 3 to 6 inches, with locally higher totals in western Maine’s mountain areas. Coastal zones such as Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, and Machias may see an additional 1 to 2 inches before precipitation ends around daybreak.

The weather service warns that roads are expected to be snow-covered and slippery, particularly in rural and elevated areas. Low visibility during periods of moderate snow could make overnight and early morning travel hazardous.

Drivers are urged to reduce speed, allow for extra stopping distance, and check regional road conditions via NewEngland511.org before heading out. Forecasters add that conditions will gradually improve by mid-morning as snow tapers off and temperatures rise slightly.
