Bar Harbor, Maine – A late-season Nor’easter will slam into northern and eastern Maine tonight, bringing strong winds, soaking rain, and mountain snow through Saturday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, rain will spread from south to north tonight, intensifying Friday and continuing into Saturday. Coastal areas from Bar Harbor to Eastport may see wind gusts up to 50 mph overnight into Friday morning, with 25–35 mph gusts farther inland. Rain totals through Saturday could reach 1.5 inches in Millinocket, Bangor, and Machias.
High elevations may see winter-like conditions. Snow is expected to mix in above 1,500 feet, especially on Mount Katahdin, where 5 to 10 inches of accumulation is likely by Saturday morning. No snow accumulation is forecast elsewhere.
Power outages and minor flooding are possible, particularly in Downeast areas exposed to strong onshore winds. Residents are advised to secure loose items, avoid unnecessary travel overnight, and check road conditions before commuting Friday morning.
Skies will remain mostly cloudy on Sunday, with lingering showers across northern Aroostook County. A warmup arrives Monday, with drier weather expected into next week.
Warnings remain in effect through Saturday night as the Nor’easter gradually weakens.
