Gray, ME – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect tonight for portions of western Maine and northern New Hampshire as mixed precipitation is expected to create slippery and potentially hazardous road conditions through early Sunday morning.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, the advisory is active from 7 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday, with 1 to 3 inches of snow and ice accumulations around one-tenth of an inch likely across the region. Temperatures are expected to hold below freezing throughout the storm, increasing the risk of quick icing on untreated surfaces.
The advisory includes Northern Oxford, Southern Oxford, and Northern Franklin counties in Maine, as well as Northern Coos County in New Hampshire. Communities such as Rangeley, Rumford, Bethel, Fryeburg, Norway, Kingfield, Coburn Gore, Errol, Colebrook, Newry, Oquossoc, and Bryant Pond are within the impacted area.
According to the NWS, precipitation will begin this evening and shift between light snow, sleet, and freezing rain overnight. While overall totals remain modest, forecasters emphasize that even light snow and thin icing can significantly impact roads, especially in higher elevations and shaded areas.
Drivers are urged to use caution, avoid unnecessary evening travel, and monitor newengland511.org for updated road conditions. Sidewalks, driveways, and steps may also become slick, posing a risk for slips and falls.
The wintry mix is expected to taper off around daybreak Sunday, though icy patches may linger until temperatures begin to rise later in the morning.
