Bangor, Maine – Maine’s first major heat wave of the season is set to intensify Monday and Tuesday, with parts of the state bracing for dangerous heat index values topping 105°F.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, high temperatures will climb into the mid to upper 80s Monday before surging into the 90s across interior Maine on Tuesday. Combined with elevated humidity, the heat index will spike into the danger zone, especially across interior Downeast and the Bangor region. Heat risks are expected to enter the “major” category, posing serious health threats like muscle cramps, nausea, and heat exhaustion.

Cities including Dover-Foxcroft, Lincoln, and Millinocket are expected to feel the brunt, with red zones on NWS heat maps indicating the highest risk. Those living without air conditioning, the elderly, children, and pets are particularly vulnerable. Residents should wear light-colored, loose-fitting clothes, stay indoors during peak afternoon heat, and hydrate regularly.
