Bangor, ME – Residents across portions of eastern Maine are waking up to a frost advisory this morning, with the National Weather Service warning that temperatures could dip as low as 30 degrees through 8 a.m. Thursday.
According to the NWS Caribou office, the advisory covers Southern Penobscot, Interior Hancock, Central Washington, Coastal Hancock, and Coastal Washington counties. Cities including Bangor, Bar Harbor, Ellsworth, Machias, Calais, and Eastport are under the alert.
Forecasters say frost formation could harm or kill sensitive outdoor vegetation if left uncovered. Residents are urged to take precautions to protect gardens, flowers, and other tender plants.
The frost is a result of high pressure moving over the region, producing clear skies, calm winds, and chilly overnight lows. Morning temperatures are expected in the upper 20s to low 30s in the coldest spots before rebounding into the 50s and 60s this afternoon.
Looking ahead, dry weather will continue across Maine through the weekend, with a gradual warming trend. Daytime highs are forecast to reach the upper 60s to low 70s by Saturday and Sunday before another cooldown arrives early next week. The next chance of rain is not expected until early in the week of October 6.
