Bangor, Maine – Drivers across eastern and northern Maine should expect minor flooding and water-covered roads through 8 a.m. Friday, as heavy rainfall pushes into low-lying and poorly drained areas across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a Flood Advisory is active for Aroostook, Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Washington counties. Radar detected bands of intense rain around 4:45 a.m., with localized flooding already underway in some areas.
Motorists traveling the I-95 corridor between Bangor and Houlton are urged to reduce speeds and keep headlights on. Communities including Old Town, Ellsworth, Millinocket, Dover-Foxcroft, and Cherryfield may also see rising water on streets and near small creeks.
Residents in flood-prone zones should avoid driving through standing water and keep a close eye on changing conditions. Campers near rivers or streams are advised to relocate until the advisory expires.
Warnings may be extended if rain persists. Updates are available at weather.gov/car or via local emergency alerts.
