Bangor, Maine – Thick fog is blanketing much of central and coastal Maine early Sunday, dropping visibility to a quarter-mile or less and making morning travel risky for drivers across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect for Southern and Central Penobscot, Hancock, Washington, Southern Piscataquis, and nearby counties until 7 a.m. Sunday. Cities from Bangor and Brewer to Bar Harbor, Calais, and Ellsworth are waking up to dangerous driving conditions as dense fog settles over major routes, including stretches of I-95 and U.S. Route 1.
Motorists are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights or fog lamps, and leave extra space between vehicles. Sudden drops in visibility are possible, especially on rural roads near lakes and wooded areas. Wildlife activity is also heightened in foggy conditions, adding another layer of risk for early-morning commuters.
