Cross Lake, Maine – An 87-year-old man was critically injured Tuesday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash involving a side-by-side ATV and an SUV on Caribou Road in Cross Lake.
According to the Maine State Police, the incident occurred shortly before 3:30 p.m. when 60-year-old Milan Bogdanovic of Fort Kent was traveling south on Caribou Road in a 2018 Ford Expedition. At the same time, Norman Daigle, 87, of Cross Lake Township, was operating a 2023 Polaris Ranger side-by-side along the same route.
Preliminary findings indicate Daigle’s vehicle entered the travel lane of the road, where Bogdanovic was driving. Despite attempts to avoid the collision, Bogdanovic struck the ATV. Daigle was ejected from the side-by-side and sustained serious injuries.
Emergency responders transported Daigle by ambulance to Northern Maine Medical Center in Fort Kent. He was later airlifted to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where he remains in critical condition as of Wednesday morning. Bogdanovic was not injured in the crash.
The Presque Isle Police Department and the North Lakes Fire Department assisted Troop F troopers at the scene. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
