Porter, ME – A decades-old mystery continues to haunt western Maine as investigators renew attention on the disappearance of 14-year-old Roger Day, who went missing on October 3, 1973, in Porter.
According to Maine State Police, Day, born November 4, 1958, was last seen leaving his home in Porter, reportedly planning to spend the day at the Fryeburg Fair. When he did not return, his father filed a missing person report the following day, October 4, 1973.
Despite searches and community efforts at the time, no trace of Day was ever found. His case remains unsolved more than 50 years later. Authorities say the missing person investigation is still open and are urging the public to come forward with any information, no matter how small.
Day was described in reports as a Porter resident with ties to Oxford and York counties. The Fryeburg Fair, a popular annual event, draws thousands from across New England, raising the possibility that witnesses from outside the immediate area may have seen something that could help investigators.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit – South at (207) 624-7076 or submit tips through the department’s official website.
This case remains one of Maine’s longest-standing missing person investigations.
