Caribou, ME – A strong winter system is set to bring snow, frigid temperatures, and gusty winds to Maine starting Thursday evening. Wind chills could drop to dangerous levels, and residents are urged to prepare for icy roads and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow will move from south to north Thursday afternoon, continuing into the evening before tapering off early Friday. Highs will range from the low 20s in northern Maine to the low 30s Downeast. Accumulations of 3 to 6 inches are possible, with locally higher amounts.

Friday will bring gusty westerly winds of 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, causing blowing snow and hazardous travel conditions. Although temperatures will rise slightly, the wind will make it feel much colder.

The weekend remains chilly, with highs near 16°F Saturday and another round of snow possible Sunday, mostly impacting Downeast areas.

Drivers should use caution on slick roads, and residents should take precautions against extreme cold. Stay updated on the latest weather advisories.
