Caribou, ME – Residents across central and northern Maine are preparing for challenging conditions as a Winter Storm Warning continues through early Friday morning.

The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that areas including Northwest Aroostook, Northern Piscataquis, Northern Penobscot, and Central Piscataquis counties could see an additional 4 to 9 inches of snow, bringing storm totals to as much as 11 inches in some locations. Wind gusts of up to 40 mph may cause reduced visibility due to blowing snow and could also result in downed tree branches.

According to the NWS, the warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Friday. Hazardous conditions are expected to impact both the morning and evening commutes on Thursday, with roads becoming treacherous as snow continues to accumulate.

Drivers are urged to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and ensure vehicles are stocked with emergency supplies such as flashlights, food, and water. Residents are encouraged to monitor the latest updates on road conditions by visiting New England 511.
