Caribou, ME – A powerful Arctic cold front is set to bring snow showers, high winds, and frigid temperatures to northern Maine starting early Tuesday morning. Residents are advised to prepare for hazardous driving conditions, blowing snow, and dangerously low wind chills.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, snow showers will begin before dawn on Tuesday, with gusty winds up to 40 mph creating areas of patchy blowing snow. Temperatures are expected to plunge throughout the day, dropping to single digits by the evening. Wind chills may fall as low as -15°F, making frostbite a risk for anyone exposed to the cold for prolonged periods.

Drivers along U.S. Route 1 and other major roads should expect low visibility and slippery conditions during the morning commute. Snow accumulation will range from 1 to 2 inches, with more in higher elevations.

Looking ahead, Wednesday will remain cold with a slight chance of snow showers, and temperatures could struggle to rise above 10°F. By Thursday, bitter cold persists, with a high of just 7°F. Residents should bundle up and limit time outdoors.
