Anchorage, AK – A magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck near Anchorage early Wednesday, shaking communities across Alaska. Residents from Anchorage to nearby Valdez reported feeling the tremors, with intensity levels reaching a moderate “IV” on the Community Internet Intensity Map, according to reports.

The earthquake hit at approximately 3:07 a.m. local time, centered 38 kilometers west-northwest of Tatitlek, at a depth of 16.2 kilometers. According to the Alaska Earthquake Center, the quake was widely felt across Anchorage, sparking attention on social media as residents shared their experiences of the ground shaking.

Following the quake, the U.S. Tsunami Warning Center confirmed there was no tsunami threat. This assurance brought relief to coastal areas still wary of seismic activity. Despite the widespread tremors, officials reported no immediate damage or injuries in Anchorage or surrounding areas.

Seismologists continue to monitor aftershocks in the region as Alaska remains one of the most seismically active states in the U.S. Residents are encouraged to stay alert and review earthquake safety measures.
