Bend, OR – The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reports a magnitude 4.0 earthquake occurred 192 kilometers (119 miles) west-northwest of Bandon, Oregon, at 03:21:23 UTC on November 5, 2025 (7:21 p.m. PST Tuesday).
The quake struck at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles) beneath the Pacific Ocean, well offshore from the Oregon coastline. The USGS National Earthquake Information Center has reviewed and confirmed the event, identifying it as the mainshock of a small seismic sequence.
While at least one “Did You Feel It?” report was submitted, there were no reports of damage or injuries, and no tsunami warnings or advisories were issued. The USGS aftershock forecast estimates less than a 6% chance of another quake of magnitude 3.0 or greater in the coming week.
This area lies near the Cascadia Subduction Zone, a major offshore fault capable of producing large earthquakes, but events of this small magnitude are common and not unusual for the region.
Residents along the Oregon coast are reminded that even minor offshore quakes serve as a valuable reminder to review emergency and tsunami preparedness plans.
