Milwaukee, Wisconsin – Large hail could begin falling within hours this evening as the first round of thunderstorms develops across southern Wisconsin, with stronger and more widespread storms expected by Tuesday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan, storms this evening into tonight may produce hail up to 2 inches in diameter, especially from Madison to Fond du Lac and west toward Wisconsin Dells. Confidence in exact storm placement remains low, but any storm that forms could quickly become severe.

By Tuesday morning into the afternoon, a cold front will push across the state, bringing a more organized line of storms. This second round carries a higher confidence of impacts, including wind gusts up to 60 mph and hail up to 1 inch in diameter, particularly along the I-94 corridor from Madison to Milwaukee and Racine.

Drivers should prepare for rapidly changing conditions, including reduced visibility and debris on roadways during stronger storms. Power outages are possible where wind gusts peak.

Secure outdoor items and move vehicles indoors if possible to avoid hail damage. Storm chances continue through Tuesday evening, with additional warnings likely as the system strengthens.
